The Fourth Grade Farewell is a wonderful Winnetka tradition. A time for all of our 4th graders to say goodbye to elementary school and begin their next chapter. We are excited to be able to celebrate this milestone at Hubbard Woods on Thursday, June 3rd!
As we all know, this has been an unusual year and with that comes unusual challenges, including how we celebrate our fabulous 4th graders. We have planned a very exciting day, ensuring these kids will feel loved and celebrated.
Below is an outline of the festivities and a link to a payment page for the celebration fee. The PTO covers much of the cost of our celebration, but this fun day could not happen without the support of our families.
Please read below and feel free to reach out to our 4th Grade Farewell Committee Chairs or our PTO President with questions.

Monday, May 31st…shhhhh, it’s a surprise!
On Memorial Day, Monday, May 31st the fun will begin!
Our committee will put a congratulatory yard sign in your yard and drop a goodie bag at your door. Included in that goodie bag will be a class t-shirt. Please make sure your 4th grader wears their t-shirt on June 3rd!
Please remember to turn in your t-shirt order forms by Friday, May 7th!
Thursday, June 3rd
4th Graders wear their class T-Shirts to school!
After lunch the 4th graders will begin their celebration. Due to COVID guidelines they cannot all be together in one space, but we have come up with a great alternative to keep the kids safe and have fun. The kids will rotate by class through three stations. All school safety guidelines will be followed. Children will remain socially distanced and wear masks except while eating safely spaced out.
1. 4th Grade Farewell Video – 4th graders will watch the video with their class (each child will bring home a flash drive of the video so you can watch it with them at a later time!)
2. Yearbook Signing – 4th graders will get a chance to peruse their yearbooks and have their classmates sign them – a great HW tradition!
3. ICE CREAM – At a festively decorated school location the kids will celebrate their last days at HW with their class and an ice cream truck.
Look out for the ice cream permission slip being distributed at school. Sign and return quickly! Children will not be permitted to eat ice cream without a permission slip.
Our team has been hard at work planning the festivities, putting together the video, finding festive decor and fun swag bags! We want this day to be special for our kids.
Due to current COVID guidelines, this celebration will be limited to 4th grade students and adults supervising the event. We promise there will be lots of pictures taken and they will be sent out for the parents to enjoy!
Friday, June 11th
School is over, but keep up those signs! Celebrate your 4th grader! We will come by and collect all yard signs on Friday, June 11th. Please don’t throw away your signs! Our hope is to reuse these signs for future 4th grade celebrations.
