Annual PTO Initiatives

The PTO is proud to host a full roster of fun events and initiatives for our students, families and staff to support the best possible elementary school experience for all.

  • Month of Service & Learning (MOSAL) is an annual tradition that engages students in meaningful service education. The PTO supports an internal curriculum with a number of hands-on service projects over the month.

  • Mayfest is the biggest blacktop extravaganza of the school year & our annual carnival-themed fundraiser. Mayfest is a 40+ year tradition featuring rides, games, music, lunch and an exciting raffle…all powered by our children and your generous donation of time and monetary support.

  • The Hubbard Woods PTO holds its annual Book Fair in the Resource Center of the school each November. The Book Fair is a great place to find age-appropriate, worthwhile books for your family. At the Book Fair, you can also purchase books for Hubbard Woods classrooms based on teacher wish lists.

Anderson’s Bookfair Company (ABC) provides a large assortment of books, guided by the Hubbard Woods Resource Center staff. 25% of proceeds go directly back to the Resource Center to purchase new books and materials for the students to enjoy.

  • Every March, we take time to recognize all of the hard work and dedication of our amazing faculty and staff. Thanks to the tireless efforts of so many, Hubbard Woods is a warm, welcoming school for our children. The Teacher and Staff Appreciation Committee organizes our parent body to create a very special week for our teachers.

We provide breakfast and afternoon treats in the faculty lounge throughout the week, create a banner of thanks from students. Room parents organize personal notes from students and on Friday, we host a teacher luncheon to wrap up the special week!

  • Get ready for a very special morning gathering of the Fourth Graders and their parents, typically on the last day of their schooling at Hubbard Woods! This longstanding Hubbard Woods tradition is for all 4th graders as they graduate.

It is a memorable day for all, as they look back on a very special time – and look ahead to big things at Skokie School next year!

  • The Bike Rodeo is held every May for second grade children on the Hubbard Woods school playground. It is designed to build students’ independence, confidence, physical strength and competence on their bicycles.

The “Rodeo” involves navigating obstacles, making tight turns, signaling, and general bike safety.

The Winnetka Police Department will available to register bikes and a bike mechanic from Green Bay Cycles is available to provide safety inspections.

A packet of information is sent home with each student before the bike rodeo.  This includes information on biking rules and safety regulations. It is to be reviewed and completed with parents prior to the bike rodeo.

  • This committee creates a “travel experience” for students in grades K-4.

During various World Travelers weeks throughout each year, students learn about the history and culture of a particular country in fun and engaging ways!
