World Travelers

World Travelers

The PTO is working on ways to help students travel the World and explore different countries in a new way. Stay Tuned for more information!

What is World Travelers?

Three times in the school year (typically, October, January and April), this committee creates a travel experience for participating students in grades K-4.

During the Travelogue, students learn about the history and culture of a particular country in a fun and engaging way.

World Travelers Indonesia!

Join us as World Travelers takes Hubbard Woods on a journey to Indonesia! Students will learn fun facts about the tropical country including the best places to visit, its role in the discovery of the Americas and meet some really cute, but endangered, animals.

There is no need to sign up for World Travelers, as all students will have an opportunity to view a presentation in class that was created by a fellow Hubbard Woods parent, Louisa Balach. They can test their newfound knowledge out by filling out a quiz and turning it in to their teacher.  6 randomly selected students who turn in a completed quiz can win a special prize!

Want to join in on the fun at home? Click on the links below to:

-Take the World Travelers Quiz on Indonesia and turn it in at school for a chance to win a prize!
– Watch the presentation about Indonesia
– See what a Gamelan performance is like (located in Bali)
– Learn more about Wayang Kulit (shadow puppets)

Thank you to Louisa Balach for sharing her heritage with our Hubbard Woods School community and thanks to all for joining us as we reimagine World Travelers again this year! Any questions? Contact Hubbard Woods PTO.

World Travelers Iran!

World Travelers traveled to Iran guided by the Sani Family! Students learned about the country’s rich traditions, geography, language, customs and heritage by viewing a presentation created by the Sani Family during their lunch time at school. The school lobby was decorated with special Nowruz table, which celebrates the Persian New Year and start of spring.
Please check out these links for additional opportunities for your family to learn more about Iran at home.

What is World Travelers?

What is World Travelers?

Three times in the school year (typically, October, January and April), this committee creates a virtual travel experience for participating students in grades K-4.

During Travelogue, students learn about the history and culture of a particular country in fun and engaging ways!

Student Participation

Information is advertised in the Item Newsletter as well as the PTO website. We also send home a short trivia to pique the interest of students and help develop their research skills. Those who answer all questions correctly are entered in a drawing to win a small prize.

Where Have We Traveled So Far?

We strive to present a diverse mix of countries from all over the world. Below are the countries we covered in the past few years:

  • 2017-2018: Greece, Mexico, Taiwan
  • 2018-2019 Sweden, Peru
  • 2019-2020 Wales, Norway
  • 2020-2021 Egypt, Japan, Germany

How can you help?

We are always looking for volunteers who are willing to share their knowledge of a particular country and culture. Typically, our presenter volunteers are either from that country, or have lived there or have had enough exposure to share their knowledge with the kids. If it’s not you, it may be your spouse, a close relative, a friend or neighbor. Please reach out if you have any suggestions.

In addition to presenter volunteers, we are also always looking for new members to join. Members get together once at the beginning of the school year for meet & greet and general planning, and then three more times in the school year to plan each country. Members also help out during the few weeks leading up to each destination with basic tasks such as putting signs outside the school, procuring supplies, and decorating the lobby!

For more information, please contact Hubbard Woods PTO.
